Monday Devotional

Scripture Reading: Revelation 3:14-22

Title: Keep the Water Flowing

Key Verse: Revelation 3:15–16 (ESV) ~ I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.

Devotional:

A park maintenance worker once explained why the city's fountains run continuously, even during off-seasons. "Moving water stays clean," he said. "The moment we shut them off, algae grows, debris accumulates, and the water becomes unfit for anything." Within weeks, what was once crystal clear becomes murky and unusable.

Christ's words to the Laodicean church carry this same principle. Spiritual lukewarmness—going through religious motions without genuine engagement—creates the perfect environment for spiritual decay. Like stagnant water, a stagnant faith becomes a breeding ground for compromise, doubt, and eventual abandonment of what we once held dear.

The Laodiceans had wealth, comfort, and religious activity, yet Jesus found them spiritually nauseating. They weren't openly rebellious (cold) or passionately devoted (hot)—they were simply going through the motions. This lukewarm state was more dangerous than outright opposition because it felt acceptable while slowly eroding their spiritual foundation.

Active spiritual growth requires intentional engagement: regular prayer that goes beyond routine, Bible study that challenges us, worship that connects our hearts to God, and service that stretches our faith. When we maintain this spiritual "flow," our faith stays vibrant and resilient against the pressures that would otherwise contaminate our walk with Christ.
