Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 3:14-18; 1 Peter 2:1-3

Title: Growing Beyond Where We Started

Key Verse: 2 Peter 3:18 (ESV) ~ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Devotional:

A master gardener was asked why some of his plants thrived while others remained stunted despite being planted in the same soil. He explained, "The difference isn't in the planting—it's in the feeding. The plants that flourish receive consistent nutrients, water, and care. Those that remain small have been neglected, living off their original planting alone."

This principle applies powerfully to our spiritual lives. Many believers plant their faith through salvation but then neglect the ongoing nourishment required for growth. They operate on spiritual reserves from years past—a camp experience, a powerful sermon, or an initial encounter with God—rather than cultivating fresh, daily relationship with Him.

Peter's instruction to "grow in grace and knowledge" isn't a suggestion; it's a command. Faith that remains static becomes stagnant. Just as physical muscles atrophy without use, spiritual muscles weaken without exercise. We cannot coast on yesterday's spiritual victories or rely on secondhand descriptions of God's character when He invites us into firsthand experience.

The beauty of spiritual growth is that it compounds. Each day of seeking God builds upon the previous day. Each prayer deepens our understanding. Each act of obedience strengthens our trust. What begins as simple belief evolves into unshakeable confidence in God's character and promises.
